How do you cope with reminders of your loss during pregnancy announcements or baby showers?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us know how painful it can be to navigate the world when we’re faced with reminders of our loss, especially during pregnancy announcements or baby showers. These moments can feel like a punch to the gut, reigniting grief that we might have thought was easing. It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed by mixed emotions — joy for others, but deep sadness for what we’ve lost. One thing that has helped me is allowing myself to feel those emotions fully. When I hear about a pregnancy announcement, I don’t shy away from the feelings that arise. It’s okay to feel happy for someone while also feeling the sting of loss. Acknowledging both can be part of our healing process. I’ve found that journaling about these feelings helps, too. Writing down what I’m experiencing — the joy, the heartache, the confusion — often brings some clarity and relief. Another approach that many of us have found helpful is to create our own rituals for remembrance. For instance, when I know a baby shower is coming up, I might light a candle in honor of my baby, or spend some time at a special place that reminds me of them. This can be a comforting way to connect with our loss while still respecting the happiness of others. It’s a reminder to ourselves that our babies are always part of our lives, no matter what. Connecting with others who understand this journey is essential. I’ve met a few people in similar situations, and just talking about our experiences has been a source of comfort. We share tips on how to cope with these challenging reminders and even plan meet-ups when we know events are coming up. Having someone to lean on during tough times makes such a difference. Sometimes, just sharing these thoughts can lighten the load. Anyone else feeling the weight of these reminders lately? How do you cope with the mix of emotions during announcements or baby showers? I'd love to hear your stories.
