How do you handle the stress of not knowing if you’ll be able to stay in the country long-term?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us know the weight of uncertainty when it comes to our status in this country. The stress of not knowing if we’ll be able to stay long-term can feel overwhelming, and it often seeps into our daily lives, affecting everything from our mental health to our relationships. It’s like living with a storm cloud hanging over us, constantly asking, “What if?” One thing that has helped me is finding small ways to create stability in my life. It might sound simple, but establishing a routine can be really grounding. Whether it’s setting aside time each week for self-care, focusing on a hobby, or even just making sure I’m connecting with friends, having that routine helps take my mind off the uncertainty, even if just for a little while. Another approach many of us find useful is sharing our experiences with others who understand. I started talking to a few people in my community who are going through similar situations. Just having someone to vent to or share fears with has made a huge difference. We meet up occasionally to just chat and remind each other that we’re not alone in this struggle. It really lightens the load when we can relate to each other’s challenges and victories, no matter how small. I also try to focus on the present moment whenever I can. Mindfulness practices, like meditation or even just taking a few deep breaths, help me stay grounded. It’s easy to spiral into worry about the future, but bringing my attention back to the here and now can be a relief. Anyone else feeling this way? Sometimes just talking to one person who gets it makes all the difference — I’d love to hear what has helped you cope with the stress of uncertainty.
