Does anyone else feel a sense of guilt when enjoying small luxuries after struggling for so long?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Does anyone else feel a pang of guilt when they indulge in small luxuries after having struggled for so long? It’s such a weird mix of emotions, isn’t it? Many of us know what it’s like to feel like we should be saving every penny or putting every extra dime toward necessities. Yet, when we treat ourselves to something nice—like a fancy coffee or a new book—we can’t help but feel that little voice creeping in, whispering that we don’t deserve it. One thing that really helped me navigate this guilt was reminding myself that enjoying small luxuries doesn’t erase my past struggles. I started keeping a gratitude journal where I note down the small things I appreciate, like a warm cup of tea or a cozy afternoon. Writing it down helps me acknowledge that I can enjoy the present while still being mindful of my journey. It’s a balancing act, but it reminds me that joy can coexist with hardship. Another approach some of us find helpful is connecting with people who understand this complex relationship with money and self-worth. I found someone nearby who’s been through similar experiences, and we started sharing our little victories, even the ones that felt trivial at first. Just having someone to talk to about these feelings has made it easier to celebrate those small luxuries without the guilt weighing me down. It’s important to recognize that we deserve joy, no matter our financial history. Many of us have fought hard to get to a place where we can treat ourselves, and it's okay to embrace that. Sometimes, it’s about finding the right moments to indulge that feel intentional rather than impulsive. Anyone else wrestling with this feeling? How do you navigate enjoying the little things after struggling? It would be great to hear your experiences and tips!
