The struggle of feeling invisible while also being hyper-visible in certain situations

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Have you ever felt like you’re both invisible and hyper-visible at the same time? It’s such a confusing combination, isn’t it? Many of us in the Other Community know this struggle all too well. We can blend into the background one moment, only to feel like all eyes are on us the next. One thing that often helps is finding spaces where we can express ourselves without judgment. Sometimes, just having a supportive group where we can talk about our experiences makes a world of difference. I remember feeling completely unseen in social settings, then suddenly feeling like everyone was scrutinizing my every move during a presentation or meeting. It can be exhausting to navigate those extremes. When I connected with others who get it, I found we could share our stories and strategies for coping with that hyper-awareness. Another approach that some of us have found useful is practicing self-affirmations, especially during those moments when we feel invisible. It can be as simple as reminding ourselves that our experiences are valid and worthy of recognition. When we acknowledge our feelings, it can help us reclaim some of that visibility for ourselves, rather than waiting for others to see us. It’s also crucial to have some go-to grounding techniques for those hyper-visible moments. Deep breathing or taking a short walk can help us refocus and remind ourselves that we are more than the stares or judgments we might feel. And finding someone to share those techniques with can make it feel less daunting. Having even one person in your life who truly understands this can lighten the load significantly. Anyone else dealing with this duality? It can feel isolating, but sometimes just one real conversation with someone who gets it changes everything. What strategies have you found helpful in navigating these feelings?
