How do you cope with social events where everyone seems to be having babies or celebrating pregnancies?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Navigating social events can be really tough, especially when it feels like everyone around us is celebrating pregnancies or welcoming new babies. Many of us have faced that sinking feeling when we hear about yet another baby shower or see photos of friends with their little ones. It’s completely valid to feel a mix of sadness, envy, and even isolation in those moments. One thing that helped me was setting boundaries for myself. If I know there’s a gathering that might be triggering, I’ve learned it’s okay to skip it. I’ve also found that planning a fun outing with supportive friends who understand what I'm going through can shift my focus. We might spend the day doing something we love, like visiting a local museum or having a cozy movie night. Those moments remind me that I’m not alone in this journey and that there are still joyful experiences to be had. Another approach some of us try is to prepare for these events mentally. Before attending, I’ll often talk it out with someone who understands my feelings. Sharing my emotions with a friend who gets it makes a huge difference. We might even come up with a plan for how to navigate the event together, so I don’t feel as isolated in a crowd of baby talk. It’s also been helpful to find small ways to celebrate my own journey. Whether it’s treating myself to a nice dinner or picking up a hobby I’ve always wanted to try, focusing on my own path can bring some joy back into my life. Having even one person in your life who truly understands this can be a game-changer. I found someone going through a similar experience, and we started talking regularly — it changed everything for me. Anyone else feeling this way about social gatherings? It can be so hard, but sometimes just one real conversation with someone who gets it changes everything. What has helped you cope in these situations?
