How do you cope with the feeling of being unwanted in both your home and host countries?

Many of us know that feeling of being unwanted, whether it’s in our home country or the new one we’ve been sent back to. It can be incredibly isolating, like walking through a crowded room and feeling completely invisible. The weight of that disconnect can be heavy, and it’s okay to acknowledge how tough it is.
One thing that helps me cope is finding small communities where I feel understood. I’ve started connecting with others who have faced similar journeys, and even just sharing our experiences has made a huge difference. For example, I found a local group that meets weekly to discuss our challenges and share stories. Being with people who get it has truly helped me feel a bit less alone.
Another approach some of us try is creating our own spaces, whether that’s through social media or local meetups. We can share our feelings, and even our frustrations, in a safe environment. I’ve seen how sharing our stories can lead to connections that feel more like family than anything else. It’s empowering to know that we’re not the only ones navigating this complicated path.
Sometimes, it’s just about finding a way to express what we’re going through. Writing about our feelings, whether in a journal or online, can be cathartic. It allows us to voice our struggles and maybe even connect with someone who’s been through the same experience. I’ve found that even one real conversation with someone who understands this can change everything.
How about you? Anyone else struggling with that feeling of being unwanted? Sharing our stories might just help us find each other and create the connections we need.
