The struggle of feeling judged by others for being Tumal in social settings

Many of us know the feeling of walking into a social setting and immediately sensing the judgment in the air. Being Tumal often feels like an invisible weight, amplifying our insecurities and making us hyper-aware of how others perceive us. It can be exhausting to navigate these situations when we just want to be ourselves without the added pressure of others’ expectations or assumptions.
One thing that has helped me is finding safe spaces where I can connect with fellow Tumal individuals. Even if it's just chatting online first, sharing our experiences helps normalize the challenges we face. For example, when I first started talking to someone who really understands the struggle, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. We would share stories about our experiences in social situations, and it was comforting to know I wasn't alone in feeling judged or misunderstood.
In those moments when we do find ourselves in social gatherings, practicing some grounding techniques can be beneficial. I’ve found that taking a deep breath and reminding myself of my worth can help shift my focus from how others see me to how I see myself. It’s not always easy, but having a mantra or a little reminder tucked away in my mind can make a small difference.
Another approach some of us try is preparing ourselves for potential questions or comments. It can be helpful to think about how we want to respond when people make assumptions or ask things that feel invasive. Having a few go-to phrases can empower us to steer conversations in a direction that feels more comfortable, allowing us to set the tone for our interactions.
It’s tough to navigate these feelings of judgment, but connecting with others who share our experiences truly makes a difference. Anyone else dealing with the pressure of social settings? I’d love to hear how you manage those moments and what helps you feel more at ease.
