How do you cope with the guilt of being in a better financial situation now while others are still struggling?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us know that complex mix of emotions when we find ourselves in a better financial situation while others around us are still struggling. It can feel like a heavy weight, almost like guilt creeping in, especially when we remember our own tough times. We might start questioning if we deserve this newfound stability or if we’re somehow leaving others behind. One thing that helped me was actively remembering where I came from. Reflecting on my journey and the struggles I faced not only keeps me grounded but also reminds me to appreciate the little victories in life. Sharing these stories with others who understand our backgrounds fosters a sense of connection. I've found that having conversations with friends who have had similar experiences helps me process these feelings. We can talk openly about our guilt and support each other through it, which makes the load feel a bit lighter. Another approach some of us try is finding ways to give back. This could mean volunteering for local organizations that support those still in need or even just being there for friends who are struggling. Knowing that I’m contributing to my community helps me cope with the guilt and reminds me of the importance of solidarity. It feels good to share the privilege I’ve gained, even in small ways, and it strengthens those connections we cherish so much. I've also learned that it’s okay to celebrate our successes, even when it feels uncomfortable. Recognizing the hard work that led to this point can be empowering. Sharing these moments with people who understand this journey can turn guilt into gratitude, creating a space where we can lift each other up instead of feeling isolated in our experiences. Anyone else feeling this tension between success and empathy? Sometimes just talking to one person who gets it makes all the difference. I’d love to hear your stories and what’s helped you cope.
