Does anyone else feel a sense of isolation in predominantly non-Ohu spaces?

Does anyone else feel a sense of isolation in predominantly non-Ohu spaces? It’s such a familiar struggle for many of us. Being part of the Ohu descent community often means navigating spaces where our cultural identity isn't understood or recognized. It can feel like we’re carrying an invisible weight, trying to connect with people who just don’t get it. One thing that helps is finding ways to express our identity, even in those non-Ohu environments. For instance, sharing our stories or traditions in casual conversations can help bridge that gap, even if it feels a bit daunting at first. I’ve found that when I mention my background or cultural practices, it sometimes sparks curiosity, leading to more meaningful discussions. It’s amazing how a simple story can help others see us in a different light. Another approach that some of us have tried is seeking out small groups or meetups that are specifically for Ohu descent. Even if they’re not local, connecting online can lead to a sense of belonging that’s hard to find elsewhere. I remember joining a virtual gathering once, and it felt like a breath of fresh air — being around people who shared similar experiences and understood the nuances of our identity. There's something incredibly validating about that shared understanding. Sometimes, it can also help to find a buddy who understands what it’s like. I connected with someone from a similar background, and we started meeting up for coffee. Just knowing someone else gets the complexities of our identity has really made a difference during tough days. Having that one person who shares our experiences can remind us we’re not alone. Anyone else feeling this isolation in non-Ohu spaces? I’d love to hear what you’ve tried to feel more connected or any stories that helped you. Sometimes just talking about it can change everything.
