How do you find a balance between honoring traditional craft and pursuing new opportunities in a modern job market?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Navigating the space between honoring our traditional craft as Kumhar and exploring new opportunities in a modern job market can feel like walking a tightrope. Many of us cherish the skills passed down through generations, but we also face the pressure to adapt to changing times. It can be overwhelming at times, right? One thing that has helped me is connecting with others in our community who are also grappling with this balance. Sharing our experiences has opened up new perspectives. For instance, I found a local group of artisans who blend traditional pottery techniques with contemporary designs. We meet weekly to brainstorm and collaborate, and it has sparked ideas I never would have considered on my own. Sometimes, just knowing you’re not alone in this journey makes such a difference. Another approach some of us have taken is to leverage social media. While it can be daunting to put our craft out there, showcasing our work online has led to unexpected opportunities. I started posting my pottery pieces and sharing the stories behind them. In return, I connected with people who appreciate our heritage and want to support it in the modern marketplace. It’s a way to honor our roots while inviting new possibilities. Balancing tradition and innovation is never easy, though. There are times when I feel guilty for wanting to expand beyond what my ancestors taught me. It’s a struggle many of us face, trying to stay true to our craft while also embracing the potential for growth. But I remind myself that honoring our heritage doesn’t mean we can’t evolve. It’s about finding what works for us as individuals and as a community. Anyone else feeling torn between these worlds? I’d love to hear how you’re navigating this balance and what’s worked for you. Sometimes just sharing our thoughts can lead to the best solutions!
