The pressure of academic expectations — does anyone else feel overwhelmed?

Does anyone else feel completely overwhelmed by academic expectations? Many of us with dyslexia know the struggle all too well. It often feels like we're constantly racing against the clock, trying to keep up with assignments and tests that seem designed to highlight our challenges rather than our strengths.
One thing that’s really helped me is breaking down tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces. Instead of looking at a huge essay or project as a single daunting task, I try to set mini-deadlines for myself. For example, I’ll focus on just brainstorming ideas one day, and then maybe writing an outline the next. This approach not only eases the pressure but also makes it feel less overwhelming. Plus, having someone to share this process with has been a game changer — I found a classmate who also has dyslexia, and we started meeting up to tackle our assignments together. Just having someone who gets it has made those tough days a bit lighter.
Another strategy some of us use is leveraging technology. Tools like speech-to-text apps or spell checkers can be lifesavers, helping us express our ideas without getting bogged down by spelling or typing. I remember feeling so frustrated when I couldn’t get my thoughts onto paper quickly enough, but using these tools has allowed me to focus more on the content rather than the mechanics.
It's important to remember that we’re not alone in this. The academic environment can feel isolating, and the pressure to perform can be intense. Sharing our experiences can make a big difference. If you’ve found any strategies that help you manage the stress or if you just want to vent about the latest assignment that feels impossible, I’d love to hear from you. Sometimes, just talking to someone who understands can really lighten the load. How are you all navigating this?
