Most of us have once experienced bullying either in our school, playground or among neighbours. And as we grew up the memories strikes and the trauma flashes infront of our eyes and it feels a bit terrifying and sad at the same time.
There is a mixed feeling that keeps on going in our mind, we often get angry and ashamed of our self.
When those memories comes back, i try not to fight them too much anymore. I just try to ignore or either kind of sit with it and let myself feel whatever i can think of and whatever comes in my mind. It is uncomfortable and it hurts most of time but i am ok with it because there is no point pretending that it didn't hurt me back at those times.
There's an another approach too which some of us might find helpful, it is to connect with like minded people who can understand our feelings and our problem. I found a small group of friends who faced bullying in highschool too, and we keep on checking at each other. Sometimes we talk about it, sometimes we just ignore them and pretend nothing happened at all.
It is easier to share our feeling to someone who understands us rather than judging us for our past.
I sometimes practice some other technique too which has helped me a lot to keep myself calm when those memories flashes. Breathing exercise or even a short walk can help us connect back to our real life and keep us busy in our present.
Looking at our surrounding - the sounds, the color and the calmness reminds me that i am safe now and there is no need to worry at all.
Does anyone else deal with these random thoughts popping up out of nowhere? It feels pretty isolating, you may feel you are stuck while everyone else have moved on.
For me, even one real life conversation can make me feel lighter and relaxed.
I am a bit curious -- what do you guys do when those memories flashes ??
