Do you find it hard to trust people after your experiences with bullying?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us know that gut-wrenching feeling of distrust that lingers after experiences with bullying. It can make us feel like we're walking around with invisible walls up, hesitant to let anyone in. Trust is such a fragile thing, especially when our past experiences have left scars that we can’t always see. One thing that really helped me was taking baby steps towards vulnerability. I remember when I first started sharing my story with a few close friends. At first, it felt terrifying to open up about the bullying I faced, but having just one person who truly listened made a world of difference. It’s like I could finally exhale and let some of the weight lift. That connection reminded me that not everyone is out to hurt us, even if our past makes us doubt it. Another approach that some of us find helpful is setting small boundaries. We can decide how much we want to share and when. Maybe start with light topics before delving into deeper feelings. It can be empowering to control the pace of our interactions. And who knows? You might find someone, whether it's in a support group or even among friends, who understands your journey. Having even one person who gets it can help us start to lower those walls little by little. It’s also important to remember that healing isn't linear. Some days, we might feel ready to build connections, while other days we might just want to retreat. That’s okay! Being kind to ourselves during this process is crucial. It can be comforting to know that many of us are in the same boat, navigating the complexities of trust and connection after bullying. Anyone else feeling this way? How do you approach trust in your relationships? Sometimes just hearing how someone else manages this can spark a connection that we all need.
