Navigating stereotypes about being "greedy" or "confused" in my bisexuality

Navigating the world as a bisexual person can sometimes feel like walking a tightrope, especially when it comes to the stereotypes that often accompany our identity. Many of us have faced judgment from both within the LGBTQ+ community and outside of it, with labels like "greedy" or "confused" thrown at us. It’s frustrating, and it can leave us feeling misunderstood and isolated.
One thing that has helped me is finding community with others who share similar experiences. Talking to fellow bisexuals who have faced the same stereotypes allows us to vent and validate our feelings. We can share stories about those awkward moments when someone assumes we’re just going through a phase or when they imply that being attracted to more than one gender somehow means we’re not serious about our relationships. Just having one person who gets it can lighten the emotional load.
Another approach some of us take is actively challenging those stereotypes in our conversations. When someone casually calls us "greedy" for wanting to date more than one gender, it can be powerful to respond with a personal story that highlights our genuine feelings and the depth of our experiences. This creates an opportunity for education and can even help shift someone’s perspective. We’re not greedy — we’re just open to love in all its forms.
It’s also important to remind ourselves that our bisexuality is valid, regardless of what others think. Many of us have had to navigate feelings of not fitting in — whether it's feeling too straight in queer spaces or too queer in straight spaces. Embracing our complexity can be liberating. Journaling or discussing these feelings with someone we trust can provide clarity and help lessen the confusion that sometimes arises from internalized stereotypes.
Anyone else dealing with this? Sometimes just talking about our experiences with someone who truly understands can really help. What has your journey been like in navigating these stereotypes?
