Navigating dating as a bisexual person — what are your experiences?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Dating as a bisexual person can feel like a unique rollercoaster ride, right? Many of us have faced that weird tension of trying to navigate attraction while dealing with assumptions and stereotypes that can come from all sides. It can be tough when you feel like you have to constantly explain or justify your identity to potential partners, or when you sense that someone might not fully understand what being bisexual means. One thing that really helped me was finding spaces where I could connect with other bisexual folks. Just sharing experiences with people who truly get it made all the difference. Many of us face the challenge of being perceived as "greedy" or "confused," and talking to others who have faced similar misunderstandings helped me feel validated. We started a small group where we meet up to chat about dating—sharing stories, tips, and even some laughs about the awkward moments. It feels so good to know I’m not alone in this. Another approach some of us try is being upfront about our identity from the start. It can be scary, but it often opens the door to more honest communication. I’ve had conversations where I laid everything out on the table early on, and while it’s not always easy, many of us found that it leads to more genuine connections. Plus, it helps weed out those who might not understand or appreciate our identity, saving us some heartache down the line. And let’s not forget about the pressure of navigating preferences. Sometimes, we might feel like we have to "choose a side" when dating, especially in environments that can feel binary. It’s okay to embrace the fluidity of our attractions! Sharing that with potential partners can lead to deeper discussions about what dating looks like for us, and how they fit into that picture. Anyone else dealing with the ups and downs of dating as a bisexual person? What’s worked for you? It’s always comforting to hear how others approach this journey!
