Has anyone else felt isolated during religious holidays that aren’t recognized by those around you?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Has anyone else felt that pang of isolation during religious holidays that aren’t recognized by those around you? Many of us in the Baha’i community know that feeling all too well. While our holidays are filled with deep meaning and joy, it can be tough when the world around us doesn’t share in that celebration, or worse, doesn’t even acknowledge it. One thing that has really helped me is finding ways to create our own little celebrations. This past year, I invited a few friends who are also Baha’is over for a small gathering during Ridván. We shared stories about what the holiday means to us, enjoyed some traditional foods, and even lit a candle together. It was such a simple act, but it made me feel connected and reminded me that I’m not alone in my faith, even if others don’t understand it. Another approach some of us try is reaching out to fellow Baha’is online or in our local communities. I found a couple of people nearby who were also feeling a bit isolated during the holidays, and we started a small chat group. Just knowing that there are others out there who understand the significance of these days makes such a huge difference. We share our experiences, support each other, and plan small get-togethers during the holy days. It can be tough to balance our beliefs with a world that often overlooks them, but I’ve learned that even small connections can lighten that burden. Having someone who truly gets what you’re celebrating can transform those moments of solitude into shared joy. Anyone else dealing with this? How do you connect with others during our special times? I’d love to hear what’s helped you feel more included and celebrated.
