Does anyone else feel like they’re in a never-ending race to prove their worth at work because of ADHD? Many of us know that feeling all too well—the pressure to constantly showcase our abilities while battling the unique challenges that come with our neurodiversity. It can be exhausting.
One thing that has helped me is finding ways to manage my workload in a way that plays to my strengths. For instance, I’ve started breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. This not only helps me stay focused but also gives me those little wins throughout the day. Celebrating those small victories can really shift our mindset and remind us that we are capable, even when the bigger picture feels overwhelming.
Another approach some of us have found helpful is creating a supportive network at work. Just having one or two colleagues who understand what we’re going through can make a huge difference. I found someone nearby who also has ADHD, and we’ve started checking in with each other regularly. It's comforting to know there’s someone who gets the unique challenges we face, like the fear of being perceived as unreliable or disorganized. Simply being able to share our experiences has lifted some of that pressure off our shoulders.
We also know that work environments can be tough to navigate. Sometimes, it feels like we have to constantly prove ourselves, especially in cultures that value hyper-focus and traditional productivity. If you’re feeling this way, try speaking up about your unique working style with a manager or team members you trust. Many of us have found that when we communicate our strengths and the ways we process information differently, it opens up a dialogue about flexibility and understanding.
Anyone else dealing with this? Sometimes just one real conversation with someone who gets it changes everything. What strategies have you found that help you manage those overwhelming feelings?
