Does anyone else feel like deadlines are just looming monsters in the dark? Many of us with ADHD know that time management can feel like an uphill battle. The pressure of schedules can easily become overwhelming, leaving us feeling anxious and scattered.
One thing that really helped me was breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. When I look at a big project, it can feel impossible, but if I chunk it down into little tasks, it becomes way more doable. For example, instead of saying “I need to write a report,” I tell myself, “I’ll spend 10 minutes brainstorming ideas.” That feels less intimidating and helps me get started. Plus, ticking off those smaller tasks gives me a little boost of motivation!
Another approach some of us have found useful is using visual reminders. I’ve started using colorful sticky notes and timers to keep track of what I need to do. Setting a timer for 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break, has worked wonders. It’s like giving myself permission to take it one step at a time, and those breaks really help clear my mind. Having even one person in your life who truly understands this can make a difference too. I found someone going through the same thing, and we check in regularly to share our progress — it’s made the hard days easier.
And let’s be real, sometimes we have those days where nothing goes according to plan, and that’s okay. It’s part of the journey. What matters is that we keep trying to find ways that work for us.
Anyone else dealing with this? I’d love to hear what strategies you’ve found helpful in managing deadlines and schedules!
