How do you handle the pressure of being "the creative one" when it feels overwhelming?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us know that feeling of being labeled as "the creative one," and while it can be a compliment, it often comes with a heavy weight. The pressure to constantly produce new ideas or projects can feel overwhelming, especially when our ADHD tendencies make it hard to focus or finish tasks. It’s like being expected to perform on cue, even when inspiration is nowhere to be found. One thing that has really helped me is reframing the way I view creativity. Instead of thinking I need to be constantly original or groundbreaking, I’ve started to embrace the idea that creativity can be messy and spontaneous. Allowing myself to explore different mediums or ideas without the pressure of perfection has helped alleviate some of that mental burden. If a painting doesn't turn out great, that’s okay — it’s part of the process. Another approach some of us find useful is setting smaller, manageable goals. Rather than aiming to create a masterpiece, we can focus on little bursts of creativity. For example, spending just 10-15 minutes doodling or brainstorming ideas can be a great way to tap into that creative energy without feeling overwhelmed. This helps keep the joy in our creativity, rather than letting it become another source of stress. Connecting with others who understand this pressure can also make a huge difference. I found someone nearby who gets the struggle of being "the creative one" and we started meeting up to share ideas and projects. Just having someone to bounce thoughts off and remind each other that it’s okay to take breaks has been a game changer. Sometimes just knowing you aren’t alone in this can lighten the load. So, how do you handle the pressure of being "the creative one"? Anyone else feeling the weight of those expectations? I'd love to hear what’s worked for you!
