Does anyone else struggle with feeling like your trauma is invalidated by others?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Does anyone else struggle with feeling like your trauma is invalidated by others? It’s such a tough spot to be in, and many of us know that feeling all too well. It’s like we’re carrying these heavy experiences, and when we try to share them, we’re met with dismissive comments or even outright disbelief. It can make us feel even more isolated, like we’re stuck in our own little world where no one truly gets it. One thing that really helped me was finding spaces where people understand what it’s like to live with PTSD. Just being able to talk about my experiences without fear of judgment was a game-changer. Connecting with someone who’s been through similar trauma can make a world of difference. Even if it’s just through messages or online chats at first, having someone acknowledge your feelings can help validate your journey. Another approach some of us try is to practice self-validation. It can be hard, especially when we’re met with skepticism, but reminding ourselves that our experiences are real and deserving of respect is so important. I often write down my feelings or experiences in a journal. When I read back, it helps me recognize that my trauma is valid—even if others don’t see it that way. And let's not forget the power of community. Many of us have found comfort in sharing our stories with each other, whether it’s through group chats or meet-ups. Just knowing that there are others who truly understand the weight of trauma can lighten the load. I remember feeling so alone before connecting with others, but now I have people I can turn to who get it. Anyone else dealing with this? Sometimes just one real conversation with someone who understands can change everything. What’s your experience with feeling invalidated, and how have you found support?
