Many of us know that feeling when everyday decisions turn into mountains to climb. It can be exhausting when our OCD makes choices feel overwhelming, whether it’s deciding what to wear, what to eat, or even how to respond to a text. The internal dialogue can spiral, leading to frustration and anxiety.
One thing that’s helped me is breaking down decisions into smaller, more manageable steps. Instead of thinking, “What should I wear today?” I’ll narrow it down to a few options that I know I feel comfortable in. Sometimes, we can even set a timer for a few minutes to make the choice — that way, we limit the time spent spiraling. This little trick often makes the decision feel less daunting.
Another approach some of us try is keeping a decision journal. Writing down our choices and how we felt about each one can help us see patterns over time. It’s like having a mini guidebook for our preferences and feelings. Plus, when we look back, it reminds us that we’ve made decisions before and survived the outcome, which can be reassuring when we’re facing another tough call.
Finding community can also be a game changer. I remember feeling so alone in my struggles until I connected with someone who understood exactly what I was going through. We started sharing our daily dilemmas and supporting each other when choices felt impossible. Just knowing someone else gets it can lighten the load a bit.
Does anyone else feel stuck in these decision-making loops? It can be tough, but sometimes sharing our experiences can spark new ideas. What’s your go-to strategy when OCD makes decisions feel impossible?
