Many of us in the Ezhava community know all too well the weight of caste-based discrimination in the workplace. It can feel isolating and frustrating when our identities shape how we’re treated, often without our colleagues even realizing it. Have you ever felt sidelined or overlooked for a promotion simply because of your background? You're not alone.
One thing that helped me navigate these challenges was finding others who share similar experiences. I connected with a couple of colleagues from the Ezhava community, and just having those conversations made a huge difference. We shared stories about the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways caste bias has affected our careers, and it felt so validating to know we weren’t facing this alone.
Another approach that some of us have found useful is documenting our achievements and contributions meticulously. When opportunities arise, it can be helpful to present a clear picture of our work and value. Sometimes, that means being a bit more vocal in meetings, which can feel intimidating, but it’s essential to ensure our voices are heard.
Many of us also find it empowering to seek out allies in the workplace. If you can identify colleagues who are open-minded and willing to stand up against discrimination, it can lead to a more supportive work environment. It might feel daunting at first, but one supportive person can change everything.
Navigating the workplace as part of the Ezhava community is not without its challenges, but sharing our stories and supporting each other can lighten the burden. Anyone else dealing with this? What strategies have you found helpful in overcoming caste-based discrimination at work?
