How do you cope with the guilt that sometimes creeps in after leaving the organization?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Leaving the organization can stir up a whirlwind of emotions, and guilt often seems to creep in when we least expect it. Many of us have experienced those moments of doubt—wondering if we made the right choice, or feeling like we’re letting down those who are still part of it. It’s tough, and it’s okay to feel this way. One thing that really helped me was finding a few others who’ve walked a similar path. Sharing our stories and struggles made it clear that we’re not alone in this. Many of us have found that having even one person to talk to who truly understands the complexities of leaving can lighten the load. Whether it’s through a chat over coffee or just messaging each other when guilt hits, those connections have been a lifeline. Another approach that some of us try is journaling about our feelings. Writing down what we’re experiencing can sometimes help clarify our thoughts. It’s a way to process the guilt instead of letting it simmer beneath the surface. When we write about the reasons we left, it often reminds us why we chose this path in the first place, helping to reaffirm our decision. Also, it might be beneficial to reflect on the positive changes in our lives since leaving. Have you discovered new interests or formed new relationships? Celebrating these victories, no matter how small, can help shift our focus from guilt to gratitude. It’s a reminder that our choices have opened doors to new experiences and possibilities. Anyone else dealing with this guilt? Sometimes just one real conversation with someone who gets it changes everything. I’d love to hear what’s helped you cope!
