Has anyone else experienced stigma in their workplace because of their Dhangar background?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us in the Dhangar community have faced the challenge of stigma in our workplaces due to our background. It can feel isolating and frustrating when we encounter stereotypes or assumptions based on our identity. Whether it's being overlooked for promotions or facing subtle biases in conversations, these experiences can really take a toll on our sense of belonging and confidence. One thing that has helped me is finding colleagues who share a similar background or understanding of our culture. Connecting with even one person who gets it can make a huge difference. We’ve started sharing our experiences openly, and it’s comforting to know that we’re not alone in navigating these challenges. Being able to voice our frustrations and celebrate our successes together has really created a supportive environment for both of us. Another approach some of us have tried is educating our coworkers about our Dhangar heritage. This can be as simple as sharing stories or cultural practices during team meetings. Many people genuinely want to understand and learn, and this can help break down preconceived notions. Plus, it fosters a sense of pride in our identity, reminding us that our background is something to be celebrated, not hidden. It’s also important to set boundaries. If someone makes an insensitive comment or assumption, it’s okay to speak up. You might find that others are willing to listen and learn if you approach the conversation gently. Many of us have realized that standing up for ourselves not only helps us, but also paves the way for a more inclusive environment for everyone. Anyone else dealing with this? Would love to hear your stories and what’s helped you create a sense of belonging in your workplace.
