Does anyone else feel pressure to adhere to certain rituals or customs that feel overwhelming?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Does anyone else feel that weight of expectation when it comes to rituals and customs in our Brahmin community? Many of us have grown up surrounded by a rich tapestry of traditions, and while they can be beautiful, sometimes it feels like there’s an overwhelming pressure to adhere to every single one perfectly. One thing that really helped me was to take a step back and reflect on what these rituals mean to me personally. For instance, I found that certain customs connected me deeply to my family and heritage, while others felt more like a chore. By focusing on the practices that resonate with me, I could let go of the guilt associated with skipping or modifying the ones that didn’t align with my own beliefs or lifestyle. It was freeing to realize that I could create my own meaningful interpretations of our customs. Another approach some of us have tried is sharing our feelings with family or friends who understand the struggle. Finding that one person to talk to about this can be a game changer. I opened up to a cousin about how I felt overwhelmed during festival seasons, and it turned out they felt the same way. We started discussing ways to simplify our participation, even planning a smaller gathering that felt more intimate and less stressful. It can also help to connect with others in our Brahmin community who might be navigating similar feelings. Sometimes, just knowing we’re not alone in this can ease the burden. Whether it's through group discussions or informal meetups, these connections can provide support and understanding. Anyone else feeling this pressure? I’d love to hear how you balance tradition with your own comfort. Sharing our experiences can really lighten the load.
