Navigating the fear of being sent back — how do you cope with that anxiety?

🌱 Belong Community Resource
Many of us know the overwhelming fear that comes with the uncertainty of our status—wondering if we might be sent back to a place where we no longer feel safe. It’s heavy, and that anxiety can seep into our daily lives, making even the simplest tasks feel monumental. One thing that really helped me was finding ways to ground myself during those moments of panic. I started practicing mindfulness techniques, like focusing on my breathing or grounding myself with my surroundings. When I feel that wave of anxiety wash over me, I try to pause and remind myself that I’m here now, and I have the agency to focus on what I can control. It doesn’t erase the fear, but it gives me a moment of clarity when everything feels chaotic. Another approach that some of us have found useful is connecting with others who understand this unique journey. I remember chatting with someone in a similar situation who shared their coping strategies. We started meeting regularly, and it’s been a lifeline—having someone who gets it makes a world of difference. We share our fears and the small victories, which helps to ease that feeling of isolation. It’s also important to acknowledge that this fear can sometimes feel all-consuming. On particularly tough days, I remind myself to take it one step at a time. Whether it’s reaching out to a friend, journaling about my feelings, or even just going for a walk, these small actions can help us regain a sense of control. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember that you’re not alone in this. Many of us share these feelings, and just knowing that can be comforting. Anyone else dealing with this fear of being sent back? What has helped you cope with that anxiety? Sharing our experiences can really lift the weight off our shoulders.
